Image hero

The Image hero section provides a highly-customizable feature for your boldest product photos and promotional content. Create a unique section with plenty of content and visual design blocks, video player, multiple buttons, and comprehensive image settings.

Set up section

Add this section to any template (except Checkout) and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.

Note | Editing a template changes all pages that use that template. To edit specific pages, you can create new templates or use metafields and dynamic sources.

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Select a Template to edit from the dropdown menu in the top bar.
  2. Learn how to use templates in our Templates guide.
  3. Under Template, click (+) Add section and select Image hero.
  4. Click and hold the drag-and-drop handles ⋮⋮ to re-order your sections.

icon
STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

  1. Click on the Image hero section to open the settings.
  2. Click Select image to upload and select an image file.
  3. There are no required images dimensions. We simply recommend uploaded images have a minimum width of 2500px for optimal quality across all devices.

  4. (Optional.) Upload a Mobile image to display only on mobile devices.
  5. You can use an alternate image to accommodate for re-sizing, cropping, and heading text on mobile screens. For example, you might use an image with a portrait orientation instead of landscape.

  6. Choose to Enable full width to make your image span across the entire screen. Uncheck this option to show margins on both sides of the image.
  7. Change the Banner height to set a maximum or fixed height of your image.
  8. Select Adapt to image to display the full height of your image without cropping. We recommend using this option for square or landscape orientations, so visitors won’t have to scroll down to see the full image.

Select Custom to set a Custom height for desktop and mobile screens. Choose a Fixed height (in pixels) or Relative height (as a percentage of the window height).

  9. Use Image focal points to specify the main focus of your images. The focal point of your image will remain centered and within frame when your site adapts to different screen sizes.
  10. See our image guide to learn more about setting a focal point for an image used within a section or for an uploaded image file used anywhere on your site.

  11. Use the Tint opacity slider to change the transparency of the overlay color.
  12. Set the opacity to 0% to turn off the overlay color. If set to 100%, the overlay will be opaque.

The default Tint color is selected in your theme settings. You can select a custom tint color for this section by following the steps below.

  13. Select a Tint style to use either a Solid overlay color or Gradient overlay for the tint.
  14. The gradient style fades across a range of hues. You can select one of four options to set the angle and direction of the gradient fade.

  15. Click Save.
